Since the beginning of last week, if you own a Facebook Fan page you may discover the number of Page Likes decrease a little bit.
Facebook announced a plan to clean of business pages by removing the likes from deactivated profiles. The reason, make audience data even more meaningful for businesses, everyone benefits from that.
It is important to know that if a deactivated account is reactivated, the account will be re-added to a Page’s like count.
As Facebook said, "there are two primary benefits to removing deactivated accounts from pages:"
"Business results: Removing inactive Facebook accounts from Page audience data gives businesses up-to-date insights on the people who actively follow their Page and makes it easier for businesses to find people like their followers through tools like lookalike audiences.
Consistency: We already filter out likes and comments generated by deactivated or memorialized accounts from individual Page posts, so this update keeps data consistent."
Other of the affected business are the Fan Pages who bought likes from “click farms” in the past. By hiring click farms, the pages appear more popular than they actually are. If those likes came from deactivated accounts, the new Facebook policy they would removed.
